How to Reset Tire Pressure Light

Image Error, Contact Support

When your TPMS light is on, you’ll want to tend to your tires right away. Your TPMS signals when one or more of your tires is underinflated. But, what happens if your TPMS light stays on even when all of your tires are properly inflated? What do you do about a flashing tire pressure light? Sid Dillon Chevrolet-blair Inc is here with the tips and tricks you need to learn how to reset a tire pressure light and more. Read on below to get started.

Resetting Your Tire Pressure Light

If you’re attempting to learn how to reset your tire pressure light in your own Omaha garage, you must be absolutely certain that all of your tires are in good shape. If your TPMS light simply won’t shut off, here are a few methods you can use to reset it:

  • Drive at or above 50 mph for about 10 minutes. This can cause your sensors to reset when you turn on your vehicle next.
  • With the vehicle off, turn the key to the “On” position but don’t start the engine. Hold down the TPMS reset button, often located under the steering wheel, until the light flashes three times. Start the car and let it run for 20 minutes. If you can’t find the reset button, check your owner’s manual.
  • Inflate each tire to 3 PSI over the recommended level. Deflate each tire completely. Follow this procedure for the spare tire since it may also have a sensor. Once each tire is flat, inflate them back to the recommended tire pressure.
  • When the vehicle is off, disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench. Turn the car on and honk the horn for roughly 3 seconds to discharge any remaining power. Reconnect the battery.

What Does a Flashing Tire Pressure Light Mean?

The sensors within your TPMS often use batteries, so a flashing tire pressure light is generally a sign that the batteries need to be replaced. What’s more, it may also be a warning that one or more of the sensors is malfunctioning. Regardless of the cause, you’ll want to visit our service center if you’re dealing with a flashing tire pressure light.
